The Gardener wines are elegant expressions of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from coastal, Sonoma County vineyards. Chris Condos and Suzanne Hagins use the finest grapes and traditional techniques to coax a sense of place, while striving for balance and finesse. Native yeasts and malolactic fermentations, extended lees contact, exceptional cooperage and minimal handling are some of the methods used to craft these very limited and memorable wines.

The Gardener is a second label for Horse & Plow Winery. Horse & Plow Winery is owned by husband and wife team, Chris Condos and Suzanne Hagins. Together, they draw on their different backgrounds and talents to craft original wines from organic grapes. Chris and Suzanne started Horse & Plow in 2008 to merge the best of old and new world techniques and produce authentic, hand-crafted wines. Utilizing organic farming, small lot fermentation and traditional techniques, they make balanced, food friendly and site specific wines. Organic doesn’t stop when the grapes get to the winery; their wines are made naturally with no synthetic nutrients or additives, no GMO’s, are vegan and contain low sulfites. Because of the care and time put into every bottle of wine, quantities are limited.

The Gardener 2012 Chardonnay, Don Miguel Vineyard, Russian River Valley
Rating: 92

This is a fine Chardonnay that's brisk with acidity and dry, yet rich with flavors of tropical fruits, green apples, hazelnuts and toasty oak. There's also a minerality that extends the finish beautifully. You might want to give it a year or two in the cellar. The grapes are from Marimar Torres's esteemed Don Miguel Vineyard.

The Gardener 2012 Pinot Noir, Canihan Vineyard, Sonoma Coast
Rating: 90

This is a good value for a Sonoma coast Pinot of this quality. The wine is dry, crisp and clean, with complex flavors of raspberry jam, pomegranates and heirloom tomatoes, which lend a satisfying earthiness to the fruit. New French oak is applied judiciously, and crisp acidity gives it delicious bite.
