This is the second release of the first wine to be produced
collaboratively by Ernst Loosen and Jay Somers. To create this highly
selected, limited-production wine, Ernst and Jay select a blend of
barrels from the J. Christopher cellar that reflect a distinctive
combination of clones, terroir, and cooperage. The result is an elegant
Pinot Noir with classic Oregon fruit and fine Old World structure.
The 2007 Appassionata is 100 percent Dundee Hills Pinot Noir,
blending fruit from Bella Vida 115 South Vineyard and a small amount of
Abbey Ridge Vineyard. The classic aromas of the Dundee Hills conjure up
lovely red fruits with hints of spice and lavender. Flavors of dark
cherry and a touch of mushroom are supported by excellent acidity, dusty
tannins, and lovely depth. This complex wine showcases the unique
terroir of the Dundee Hills; and has the structure to age for years
while retaining finesse and elegance.
