About: This wine is not your typical Riesling…it is an initiative
to restore the reputation of Riesling and to showcase how well old
vines can grow in the Willamette Valley. It reveals terroir more than
any other white varietal and carries through with finesse and elegance.
Winemaking Notes:
The grapes were hand sorted and 100% destemmed. The fruit settled for
1–2 days after pressing and racking to age in small lot stainless steel
fermentation tanks. The temperatures dropped to 52–55 degrees and yeast
was added. Fermentations lasted from five weeks to six months, depending
upon the lot. Once complete, the wines were racked off the lees and
individual lots were tasted to determine the overall blend of vineyards.
We bottled this wine in spring of 2010 to capture the austere, bold and
very varietal characters.
Tasting Notes: As soon as you open the bottle you are immediately overcome with
crisp fruity aromatics of apple, stone fruit and pear. More complex
aromas of minerals, honey, and lime emerge with some time in the glass.
The crisp aromatics really draw you in, daring you to take it on. With
that first drop a crisp focused acidity takes over your taste buds with a
slight tartness. As the wine moves into your mid-palate you get more
depth of honey suckle, peach, and a hint of pineapple. In the end it
finishes with a good balance of succulent fruit and bright acidity that
lasts well after the last sip is just a fond memory. A perfect pairing
for a warm summer afternoon. So grab a bottle and enjoy the summer in a
glass.
