Terroir: The jagged Sonoma Coast was formed millions of years ago when the Pacific Plate and the North American Plates collided, forming the dramatic mountainous coastline we marvel at today. Since the continent slid under, we now find ancient marine sediment pushed up on hill tops of the Sonoma Coast where our grapes grow. The fog and cool air from the chilly Pacific Ocean pushes its way into Western Sonoma County by any path it finds. Sometimes slithering over the mountains and hills, often running through river valleys and natural gaps in the terrain, always providing a cool blanket to our Pinot Noir. This essential element, in the right vineyard site, is essential for a long slow growing season. It is this double meaning of "marine layer"- earth and air - that inspires this wine.

The Banshee Marine Layer was aged for 15 months in 20% new French oak barrels and blended from four different vineyard sources. 4 barrels made.

Tasting Notes: Created from a careful selection of their best true Sonoma Coast vineyards, this special blend epitomizes the characteristics that have led them to make wine here: forest floor, tea, bright fruit flavors, pine, and enchanting aromatics.
