The youthful exuberance of the vines from the Loreto vineyard and fickle September 2008 weather produced a Brunello that is a paradigm of intensity and power, with a perfect ruby color, wonderfully floral nose and the robust tannins of tuffaceous soil.
Barrel Aging: 36 months in Allier oak barrels of 16-33-54 hl
Bottle Aging: 6-8 months
Tasting Notes: Decisive, intense and transparent ruby red color. Fruit and flowers accompanied by fresh spices on the nose. Austere entry and evident tannins, with an important finish.
91+pts (2009 Vintage) Wine Advocate 2/2014 "The recently introduced single-vineyard 2009 Brunello di Montalcino
Vigna Loreto is so much more balanced and interesting next to the
estate’s base Brunello. The wine’s appearance is richly saturated and
compelling and the bouquet imparts careful doses of fruit, tobacco,
leather and licorice that gradually build in intensity. The palate shows
warms tones of game, Indian spice and cured meat, all capped by a
lovely blast of bright red cherry that comes as an unexpected surprise.
As is the case with many wines from this vintage, Vigna Loreto is
engineered for near to medium-term consumption. Drink: 2016-2023." 89pts (2009 Vintage) Wine Enthusiast 5/2014 "Structured and concentrated, it opens with aromas of dark berries, Mediterranean herbs, cooking spices and a whiff of toast. The palate delivers ripe black and red cherries accented with licorice and notes of grilled herbs alongside tightly knit and aggressive tannins that generate an abrupt finish. This should improve with a little more age. Drink 2016-2021."
