Wine Information: 'A
Quo' means "the point from which things start." Fabio has many more
vineyards in production now and, rather than increasing production of
his three established cuvees, he's decided to use the extra fruit to
make a stricter selection for 'Eneo,' 'Nardo,' and 'Gabbro.' This leaves
a lot of fruit for the new wine 'A Quo.' It's aged in used barrels for 3
months before finishing in tank, and bears an uncanny resemblance to
early 'Eneo' vintages. It is a real winner, and help to promote
Montepeloso just as 'Petalos' has done for the Descendientes project.
About the Estate: Chiarelotto
purchased the estate in 1998, after years in academia working as an
historian. While the estate had achieved renown under the former owners,
Chiarelotto believed it held the potential to take quality even higher.
Looking to the future, Chiarelotto decided to drastically restructure (i.e.,
cut back) the vines in early 1999. As the estate emerges from those
changes, his healthier vineyards and growing understanding of the wines
has positioned this estate to achieve even greater levels of quality.
