The Chaman Story: A chaman, or "shaman" in English, is a unique person who brings guidance to the present by accessing knowledge of the past. Mysterious, magical, inspiring.

José Reginato is one such individual. José learned the secrets of each piece of dirt in his family’s vineyard in La Consulta over many decades. Here he planted Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec to match the microclimates and specific soil types. Pepe and Luis Reginato, José’s sons, finally convinced him to share his Chaman knowledge with them so that they could make their own great wine from this heralded region. Their blend changes each vintage based on which grapes create the most magic together. The Reginato family invites you to experience this mystery handed down by their father and vineyard chaman.

Luis Reginato has been a rising star in the winemaking community and is arguably becoming one of the leading viticulturists of Mendoza. The combination of Luis’s winemaking talent and admirable intuition of plants have produced a kiss of magic that has an element of mystery. Chaman is a wine unlike anything else produced by Luis.

Reviews
Chaman 2011 Red Blend (Bordeaux Blend), Uco Valley
Rating: 89

Good saturated ruby-red. Very ripe but not cooked on the nose, offering scents of blackberry, coffee, mocha, chocolate and fig. Sweet, creamy and lush but with good lift to the black raspberry, licorice and violet flavors. Finishes with tongue-dusting but suave tannins and very good building length. A very successful blend.

Chaman 2011 Red Blend (Bordeaux Blend), Uco Valley
Rating: 89

The 2011 Chaman Red Blend is the maiden vintage of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot from La Consulta, aged in 50% new and 50% used barrels. It has an attractive bouquet of blackberry, cassis, violets and a touch of cedar. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, slightly grainy tannins. There is a core of earthy black fruit laced with licorice and tar, leading to a well-defined, very composed, peppery finish with a hint of dark chocolate on the aftertaste. This is a promising debut.
