Vineyard Notes: Looking to secure a mirror-image sister ranch to 3-D, Brewer-Clifton began working with the Machado family in the winter of 2008. Their fifteen-acre parcel on their land is located adjacent to Clos Pepe and immediately behind the recently-planted Kessler-Haak vineyard. The site is marked by a gorgeous rolling terrain with sandy clay loam soils. At Machado, the majority of the planting is dedicated to pinot noir with equal amounts of such selections as Pommard, Merry Edwards, Mount Eden and 459. In addition to Pinot Noir, they also planted a small, two-acre plot in the sandiest portion of the field to the Sweeney Canyon selection of Chardonnay.
Aroma: Blackberry, Red-Flesh Plums, Balsamic Flavor: Mission Figs, Black Tea, Mocha Texture: Powerful, Brooding

Brewer-Clifton 2011 Pinot Noir, Machado Vineyard, Sta. Rita Hills
Rating: 94
Brilliant ruby-red. Assertively perfumed black raspberry and cherry-cola aromas accented by notes of potpourri and star anise. Broad and rich but with impressive lift and nerve to its red fruit liqueur flavors. Finishes silky and extremely long, with sneaky, fine-grained tannins and a hint of candied flowers.

Brewer-Clifton 2011 Pinot Noir, Machado Vineyard, Sta. Rita Hills
Rating: 94
From deep clay and sandy soils planted completely by the Brewer-Clifton team and located just behind the Kessler-Hawk vineyard, the 2011 Pinot Noir Machado dishes out gorgeous red fruits, spice and crushed flower-like qualities that flow to a structured, ripe and yet elegant Pinot that needs bottle time to round into form. Give it another 2-3 years and enjoy through 2026. Drink 2015-2026.
