Location Notes: Vineyards are located in Zone 1, in the northwest of Spain in the town of San Pedro de Vilanova in Galicia at 1,936 ft altitude; enclosed in the Ulla district, which is the driest district in Rias Baixas.
The climate is Atlantic, with average temperatures from April to October of 59º F (among the lowest temperatures in Spain) and 19.3 in. of rainfall which is among the lowest recorded rainfall levels in Rias Baixas. The cool temperatures provide a longer growing and ripening period which results in fresher and more aromatic wines. This longer growing season is only positive due to the relative low levels of rainfall which allow for healthy ripening to take place.
The topsoil is sandy with clay subsoil. The sandy soil retains heat, drains water quickly, is low in organic material and low in pH content. The main quality of its clay subsoil is water retention, which is very positive due to the warm topsoil. The cool temperatures increase freshness and aromatic expression (increased acid), supported by a soil bed that allow its grapes to ripen in a low moisture environment, with ample water-nourishment from it's water retaining subsoil. Its low organic material limits vegetative growth, thus keeping yields naturally low, resulting in more concentrated fruit flavors.
Tasting Notes: Pale yellow colour with green tinges. Ripe fruit aromas, mineral hints and grassy. Flavor is kind with well-integrated acidity, apple and banana notes, intense, medium body and long finish.
