Vintage Notes: Following on the heels of the ultra-fresh 2010,
Sonoma had yet another cooler-than-usual vintage for 2011. This fits in
fabulously with the type of elegant, food friendly wines Banshee aims to
create. By working diligently with the growers of their own vineyard
sources, they were able to capture a beautiful set of fresh flavors and
savory accents that define the Banshee Pinot Noir style.
Vineyard Information:
As was the case with 2010, most of the sourcing was done from the
Sonoma Coast AVA, where we continue to find Pinot Noir that speaks to
our Burgundian sensibilities. This was the first vintage in which
Banshee used declassified fruit from their own single vineyard sources
at Tina Marie and Hurst Vineyards. Nearly 20 barrels worth from these
two vineyards alone made it into the final blend. The addition of these
special sites certainly lifted the overall sense of refinement, purity,
and length in the final blend. This edition also contains fruit from a
choice Sonoma Mountain source and numerous Russian River vineyards.
Tasting Notes: This
elegant wine meets the eye with a medium ruby hue and offers up subtle
hints of cherry and forest floor on the nose. On the palate one finds
again a mix of Ranier and black cherries mountain strawberries, rosehip
tea and plum. There are some savory notes following through the finish
that give the wine a clean line from front to back.
