Vinification: The must was vinified in stainless steel tanks with temperature control, pumped over twice a day during a period of maceration lasting 15 days. The wine was bottled after 4 months of tank rest (no time in barrels) and remained an additional 2 months in the bottle prior to being released into the market.
92 points (2010 vintage) Wine Spectator, May 2014 "Intense aromas and flavors of black currant, violet, cedar and tobacco haunt this fresh, brooding red. A Dose of oak adds tar and spice notes as this lingers on the finish. Powerfule. Best from 2016 through 2024."

Moris Farms 2011 Morellino di Scansano DOCG
Rating: 90
(a blend of 90% sangiovese, 7% syrah, and 3% merlot): Deep ruby-red. Begins with slightly reduced aromas of dark plum, violet and licorice, along with intense notes of underbrush and cloves, but brightens with aeration. Densely packed but youthfully imploded, with a saline quality to the very expressive dark fruit flavors. Finishes pure, clean and long, with no shortage of energy and plenty of early-drinking appeal. No oak.

Moris Farms 2011 Morellino di Scansano DOCG
Rating: 89
The 2011 Morellino di Scansano bursts from the glass with sweet black
cherries, licorice and spices. In 2011 the heat has given the wine an
extra dimension of fleshiness that is quite welcome in an entry-level
wine. The 2011 will lose some of its overt fruitiness over the next 6-12
months, but it is delicious, even today. The Morellino was fermented in
cement and aged in a combination of steel and cement vats. Anticipated
maturity: 2012-2015.
Morisfarms is one of Tuscany’s most
overlooked wineries. The estate doesn’t seem to get a whole lot of
attention, yet year after year the wines are brilliant and very
affordable. That pretty much sums it up.
