Valley Information: There are two faces to the Maule Valley - northern Maule and southern Maule (around Cauquenes). To the north, its beautiful rolling hills with granitic soils on top and clay structure below allow for deep root development and are perfect for growing Bordeaux varieties. The southern part is filled with small family old-vine vineyards - dry-farmed Carignane, Malbec, and Pais are found. Generally, in Maule, the region receives sufficient rain so that irrigation is not necessary. The wines are characterized by bright acidity and juicy fruit.

Reviews
J. Bouchon 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon, Maule Valley
Rating: 90

Saturated ruby. Fresh plum, cherry, pipe tobacco and mint on the nose, with a subtle undertone of sweet oak. Then juicy and smooth in the mouth, with good lift and cut to the flavors of black raspberry and cherry-cola. A jolt of rhubarb adds refreshing bitterness to the finish, which is framed by supple, slow-building tannins.
