Winemaking Notes: Machine harvested in the cool of night from around the villages of Rueda and La Seca in the DenominacĂon de Origen Rueda to ensure integrity of fruit. Grapes were lightly crushed to press with dry ice and macerated for 8 hours before draining and settling. Settled juice was fermented in stainless steel. After ferment the wine was kept sur lie for 3-4 months and lees stirring took place to build up mouth feel, complexity and minerality.

About Rueda: This winegrowing region to northwest in Spain, near to Portugal, straddles the main road from Madrid to Leon in Castilla y Leon. Since the 70s, the Verdejo has been thriving, and Rueda is currently producing some of Spain’s best white wines. The region was awarded DO status in 1980. Traditionally known more for its fortified wines, which are something like a Fino sherry, their popularity is in decline. Unfortified dry Rueda is all the rage, for its light, fruity, and refreshing qualities. It can be made from a blend of Viura, Verdejo, and Sauvignon Blanc. Some reds from Tempranillo are produced, but this is decidedly white wine country.
