The Silva family pioneered grapegrowing in the Colchagua Valley with the first vineyards back in 1892. Their cellar is the oldest in the valley. They strive to innovate in their vineyards and to pioneer new terroir in the Colchagua Valley. They are paving the way for Carmenere by investing in research studies in their vineyards to study clones and microterroirs.

Location: Colchagua is the southernmost portion of the Rapel Valley; generally, it is the region that has garnered the top scores and press for its powerful yet balanced red wines. The majority of the wineries are concentrated in the center of the valley (Entre Cordillera), although the pioneers are looking towards the Andes (e.g. Los Lingues) and at the coastal areas (e.g. Paredones) to find new cool-climate terroir.

Casa Silva 2012 'Cuvee Colchagua' Carmenere, Colchagua Valley
Rating: 88

Deep ruby. Pungent, smoke-accented aromas of cherry pit and cassis. Sappy and precise with good depth and youthful energy to the bitter cherry and dark chocolate flavors. Dusty tannins add grip to the smoky, nicely persistent finish.

Casa Silva 2012 Carmenere, Los Lingues Vineyard, Colchagua Valley
Rating: 88

Herb, spice, wild berry and wood aromas set up a round palate that's bigger than medium but not huge in size. Definitive Carmenere flavors of herbs, wild berry and spiced plum finish with moderate bitterness and tannic support.

Bright violet color. Cassis, licorice pastille, spicecake and lavender on the lively nose. Silky and fine-grained, offering energetic dark berry flavors and complicating notes of mint, licorice and peppery spices. Finishes smooth and long, with resonating spiciness and gentle tannic grip.

Casa Silva 2012 Sauvignon Gris, Colchagua Valley
Rating: 91

Citric & spicy at once, this old-wine Sauvignon Gris has the juiciness of fresh limes. Its creamy texture is balanced by bright acidity that will power through summer nights & seafood au gratin.
